Lead Guitar / Lead Vocals / Song Writer
Paul’s passion for music began at the early age of 8 when he was introduced to the now legendary sounds of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and so much more. At age 13 he decided that listening wasn’t enough, he wanted to play, and that’s when true excitement began for him. He nailed the cover songs quickly and discovered that wasn’t enough, he wanted to write his own music…and he did and now is well known for his originals such as Comin’ to Get Ya, Love is On My Side, and Butternuts to name just a few.
During High School, Paul played in his first band, Destiny. After High School, Paul’s passion for music brought him 3000 miles away from home to Guitar Institute of Technology (G.I.T.), where he continued his quest for musical excellence. During this time he mastered the guitar and studied music theory. While in LA Paul grabbed every opportunity to hone his skills and play with some of the greats in the guitar world: Keith Wyatt, Howard Roberts, Jeff Berlin, Joe Diorio and Paul Gilbert were among the many he took guidance from.
After completing his studies on the west coast, Paul returned home to Pittsburgh. Although he was no longer in the heart of the music scene Paul didn’t leave his love of music behind. Shortly after returning he started a band, Paul Peterson and the Paperboys, which played only a handful of covers with a heavy focus on Paul’s original music. Since forming that first band Paul has played in several others, Rise From Spit, Something Sacred and Sea of Glass. As with a lot of groups, egos took over and in turn took the fun out of music for Paul.
After a run with several different bands Paul decided to bring out the tracks he’d been working on as a solo project since the early ninties that he called Big House Pete. As the music broke Paul quickly realized that he was bringing the fun back into music, not only for himself but the audience as well. His only goal was to entertain the masses, so in 2001 Peterson left his other projects behind him and Big House Pete became his main focus. While band members have come and gone over the years, Paul stayed strong and still strives to keep Big House Pete Originals as his main priority and at the same time keeping the audience entertained and his skills fresh.
